Company CEO Steve Rendle said:

"Throughout VF’s storied 120-year history, we’ve weathered many storms, and each time we’ve emerged as a stronger company with a renewed sense of focus and determination. The full breadth of actions we’re taking in response to the COVID-19 situation are intended to not only address the challenges of today, but also to position our brands and businesses to thrive in the years ahead as we build on VF’s proud legacy."

Olympic Flame Removed from Display, Qualifying Athletes for Tokyo 2020 to Keep Spot in Rescheduled 2021 Games

The Olympic flame has been removed from display, according to a report from the Associated Press. Originally intended to remain on display through April, the flame was taken down as part of the Japanese government’s effort to limit large gatherings so as to combat the spread of COVID-19. Organizers told the publication:

“Tokyo 2020 will now keep the flame in an undisclosed location to prevent people from gathering.”

Elsewhere the AP reports that the roughly 6,500 athletes who qualified for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo will get to keep their spots for the rescheduled games in 2021. This comes from an announcement by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which affirmed that “athlete health is the guiding principle in the scheduling of any remaining Olympic qualification events.”

Sustainable #Agriculture #Stocks Added to Directory;
Also new stocks in #Sports,  #Cannabis and #RealEstate

Point Roberts WA, Delta BC, April 3, 2020 – (Investorideas.com Newswire) Investorideas.com, a global news source and leading investor resource announces its weekly roundup of stocks added to its global stock directories, including agriculture, sports, cannabis and real estate.

The newest companies added to the agriculture stock list are all involved in sustainable agriculture and include crop protection, environmental potash mining, increased food production and a food and agriculture ETF.

The latest sports companies are involved in esport/sports venues and a sports equipment/fitness class company.

The newest cannabis company operates in the US and EU while the latest real estate company is an REIT.

New Stocks added to Agriculture stocks directory:
Imaflex Inc. (TSXV: IFX.V) is focused on the development and manufacturing of innovative solutions for the flexible packaging space. Concurrently, the Corporation develops and manufactures films for the agriculture industry. The Corporation's products consist primarily of polyethylene (plastic) film and bags, including metalized plastic film, for the industrial, agricultural and consumer markets.  Headquartered in Montreal, Quebec, Imaflex has manufacturing facilities in Canada and the United States. Today, agricultural films are used in the growing of fresh fruits and vegetables worldwide to cover soil treated with fumigants – volatile and toxic pesticides essential for reducing pests, weeds and fungi in the soil, thus supporting good growth of new crop seedlings. The original EPA approved ADVASEAL® (ADVASEAL® HSM), contained only a herbicide for weed control. The new enhanced ADVASEAL® under development also includes fungicides and a nematicide to control soil borne pathogens, thus becoming a complete non-fumigant alternative for soil disinfestation. With ADVASEAL®, modern non-volatile crop protection products can be applied more effectively and safely than with fumigants. The crop protection products are incorporated into a coating, which is then applied to a mulch film. Once the coated film is applied to the ground the active ingredients are released into the soil under controlled conditions, preventing the over/under-dosing found with current soil disinfestation practices. This new technology dramatically reduces the amount of crop protection products required. The catalyst to trigger the release of the active ingredients is soil moisture. When the film is applied to the soil, they are efficiently and safely discharged into the ground, resulting in heightened productivity, lower costs and notable environmental benefits.

Gensource Potash Corporation (TSX:GSP.V) is a fertilizer development company based in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and is on track to become the next fertilizer production company in that province. With a small scale and environmentally leading approach to potash production, Gensource believes its technical and business model will be the future of the industry. Gensource operates under a business plan that has two key components: (1) vertical integration with the market to ensure that all production capacity built is directed, and pre-sold, to a specific market, eliminating market-side risk; and (2) technical innovation which will allow for a small and economic potash production facility, that demonstrates environmental leadership within the industry, producing no salt tailings, therefore eliminating decommissioning risk, and requiring no surface brine ponds, thereby removing the single largest and negative environmental aspect of potash mining.

Nutrien Ltd. (NYSE:NTRTSX: NTR.TO) is the world's largest provider of crop inputs and services, playing a critical role in helping growers increase food production in a sustainable manner. We produce and distribute 25 million tonnes of potash, nitrogen and phosphate products world-wide. With this capability and our leading agriculture retail network, we are well positioned to supply the needs of our customers. We operate with a long-term view and are committed to working with our stakeholders as we address our economic, environmental and social priorities. The scale and diversity of our integrated portfolio provides a stable earnings base, multiple avenues for growth and the opportunity to return capital to shareholders.

The Defiance Next Gen Food and Agriculture ETF (NYSE: DIET) Defiance ETFs is a low-cost* thematic ETF provider focusing on the Next Generation of investors. The DIET ETF provides exposure to companies that are focused on technologies like alternative plant-based sources of meat, such as Beyond Meat (BYND), seed modification, sustainable farming and irrigation techniques.

#Tokyo2020 Olympic Games Postponed Until 2021

Churchill Downs Incorporated (NasdaqGS:CHDN) has announced the temporary suspension of live racing at Miami Valley Raceway at Miami Valley Gaming in Lebanon, Ohio, and Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana in compliance with local authorities to clamp down on risks presented by COVID-19. This news comes after the company had announced the postponement of the 146th Kentucky Derby, one of thoroughbred racing’s biggest events, until September 5, 2020.

Malibu Boats, Inc. (NasdaqGS:MBUU) has taken actions to “ensure the health and safety of its key stakeholders.” Malibu CEO Jack Springer explained:

“We are all navigating uncharted waters, as uncertainty in the broader macro-economic environment has reached unprecedented levels. In this moment, the health and safety of our employees, dealers and customers remain our top priority. As a result, we made the difficult decision to suspend operations at our manufacturing facilities out of an abundance of caution for the communities we serve.

Despite the volatility in the global markets, Malibu remains in an excellent financial position. To ensure we maintain sufficient liquidity, we have drawn just under $100 million on our current revolver to support operations and strategic investments in the event of a prolonged lower demand environment. Further, our historical commitment to operational excellence and vertical integration initiatives will allow us to withstand the downward retail momentum that is beginning to reverberate throughout the world. These strategies will allow us to remain nimble and align our cost structure quickly to lowered retail demand to preserve margins.”

Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games Postponed Until 2021

After weeks of speculation a joint statement from the International Olympic Committee and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee have confirmed that the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games have been postponed until summer 2021 as the world battles to contain the Coronavirus. While the games have been canceled during the two world wars (1916, 1940, 1944), this marks the first time the games have been postponed or canceled in peacetime. An excerpt from the statement reads:

The leaders agreed that the Olympic Games in Tokyo could stand as a beacon of hope to the world during these troubled times and that the Olympic flame could become the light at the end of the tunnel in which the world finds itself at present. Therefore, it was agreed that the Olympic flame will stay in Japan. It was also agreed that the Games will keep the name Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

An article from CNBC, which was written before the announcement was made, quotes Oxford Economics’ Stefan Angrick on the “limited” economic impact of delaying the games.

“We think about it this way: The games raise economic activity by triggering construction in the years leading up to the event, and by boosting inbound tourism and associated consumption at the time the Games take place. As construction is complete, that impact is already reflected in past GDP data and won’t change.”

“In a hypothetical scenario without the coronavirus pandemic, such a step would have a significant impact. But considering the situation we’re in, with tourism coming to a virtual standstill and consumption set to decline, the additional impact of postponing the Olympics is fairly modest.”

#Coronavirus Causes #Sports Cancellations and Postponements, Devastating Revenue in Sports-Related Industries

Stocks discussed: (NasdaqGS:LULU) (NasdaqGS:COLM) (TSXV:GAME)

Lululemon (NasdaqGS:LULU) has provided an update regarding concerns over the continuing spread of Coronavirus. The company will be closing all of its stores in North America and Europe, from March 16 to March 27, leaving online shopping as an option. Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald commented:

“We are living in uncertain times and we’re learning more about this virus every day. We are taking this step to help protect our global community, guests and people, and ensure we are doing our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19

During this time, lululemon employees will continue to receive pay for all hours they have been scheduled to work and have access to lululemon’s Global Pay Relief plan. I’m proud of how our teams are working to create space for our guests to connect through yoga and meditation classes online.”

Columbia Sportswear Company (NasdaqGS:COLM) has also announced the closure of its brick and mortar retail stores in North America, from March 16 to 27. Tim Boyle, Chair, President and CEO of Columbia Sportswear, said:

"The health and safety of our employees, consumers and the communities where we live and work is paramount to us. During this temporary closure we are also offering catastrophic paid leave to our employees most affected by this virus in an effort to live our values of Doing the Right Thing for our employees, consumers and communities."

Torque Esports Corp. (TSXV:GAME) has announced that its esports tournament and broadcast operations group, UMG Media Ltd., has partnered with FaZe Clan to create an online Call of Duty: Warzone Pro-AM tournament, called #Fight2Dund, to raise funds for groups impacted by COVID-19. Torque Esports President and CEO, Darren Cox said

"People are starved of entertainment options at the moment and more and more are turning to live streaming of competitive gaming as part of the massively growing 'stay at home economy' that the virus outbreak has created.

As part of that streaming and gaming industry, the chance to team up with FaZe clan to make a contribution to the wider community like this is the least we can do. Everyone's lives are being dramatically impacted at the moment and it was important for Torque Esports and UMG to do our part to help and give back."

Coronavirus Causes Sports Cancellations and Postponements, Devastating Revenue in Sports-Related Industries

Apart from the increasingly tragic impact of the Coronavirus pandemic on human populations in terms of hospitalization and fatalities, and its ravaging of the global economy, it is also causing cancellations and postponements of sports events throughout the world. According to a CBS report today, the NBA, NCAA, MLB, NHL, NASCAR, the Premier League, Champions League, Europa League and many more have all halted or postponed seasons and events.

The NFL season has already ended, but it has announced that its 2020 draft, which is scheduled from April 23-25 in Las Vegas, will proceed as planned. However, following guidance from bodies such as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention), the draft will no longer include public fan events in the city. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said:

"This decision reflects our foremost priority -- the health and safety of all fans and citizens. While this outcome is disappointing both to the NFL and to the Las Vegas community, we look forward to partnering with the Raiders, the City of Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for a future NFL Draft as well as evaluating opportunities for other major NFL events in Las Vegas in the future, including the Super Bowl."

This trend was also seen in the golf world, perhaps most notably with the postponement of the Masters, which has not been interrupted since 1943-45 when it was cancelled during WWII. ESPN quotes Fred Ridley, chairman of Masters host Augusta National Golf Club:

"We hope this postponement puts us in the best position to safely host the Masters Tournament and our amateur events at some later date.”

Naturally all of these cancellations and postponements do not just mean less entertainment for fans, but also represent a huge loss in revenue for the leagues, venues, and many other associated businesses. One of the most significant of these related industries is the sports betting and gambling market, which has accordingly come to a halt. An excerpt from a Sports Illustrated report on the subject reads:

In 2019 there were approximately $8.5 billion in total wagers placed on March Madness, with bets coming from about 47 million Americans. In addition to wagers on the outcomes of games,  the average fan filled out four brackets with a typical entry of around $30. Last March, New Jersey gaming operators brought in nearly $32 million during March Madness, according to the American Gaming Association. Nevada sportsbooks typically handle $500 million a month on sports betting.

Additionally, many major esports events have been cancelled as well.
