At the Cincinnati Masters yesterday, defending
champion Grigor Dimitrov and 2018 Wimbledon-winner Novak Djokovic had their
match suspended overnight due to heavy rainfall. Also postponed was Roger
Federer’s match against Argentine Leonardo Mayer. Angelique Kerber, who won the
Women’s Singles title at Wimbledon last month, was beaten by American player
Madison Keys. 2018 Rogers Cup-winner Simona Halep won her suspended match
against Ajla Tomljanovic 4-6,
6-3, 6-3 yesterday afternoon.
Tom Brady and
the New England Patriots beat 2018 Super Bowl champions the Philadelphia Eagles
37-20 in a preseason game last night. ESPN reports that
Brady led six drives, of which the first led to a touchdown pass to receiver
Chris Hogan. This was Brady’s first preseason game, as he had to miss the
opener against the Washington Redskins on August 9 due to a sore back.
"It's the
first time having to do that in about six months," Brady said after Brian
Hoyer wrapped up the victory. "I feel like my timing could be better in
certain areas. I've been doing this for a long time, so a lot of it is second
nature at this point."
Elsewhere, the
Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 51-34 at Lambeau Field last
night. Quarterback and two-time Associated Press-voted league MVP Aaron Rodgers
got a standing ovation at the game after having been absent for almost 11
months, according to the AP.
“To be back at
Lambeau was a thrill and the ovation touched me,” Rodgers said. “I have to kind
of wipe away some tears in my eyes.”
