Harrison Boxing Participates
in First Boxing Match of 2018 and Comes out Winning
January 29, 2018-
Delta and Richmond BC- Greg Harrison of Harrison Boxing http://www.harrisonboxing.com/ reports on
the recent boxing match held in Langley BC on Friday January 26th.
The Delta coach,
currently training out of a Richmond gym had two students box in his team’s
first fight of 2018.
Greg Harrison
said, “In our first fight card of the year Harrison Boxing had two fighters in
action. Sixteen year -old Tristan Mclean of Tsawwassen got into the ring for
the first time. He took part in what is known as a public spar. It’s a great
way to introduce young boxers to the ring in front of a crowd. The action is
very real but the bout isn’t scored. His opponent boxes out of Surrey and has
competed several times in the past. “
Greg went on to
say ,” I personally feel Tristan is
ready for almost anything they put in front of him but there is no substitute
for experience. Every time he gets in the ring he will only get better. “
“Our second
competitor, 37 year old Aaron Downey squeezed out a split decision win in a
heavyweight tussle by out working his opponent tilting the judges in his
favour. Aaron is an undersized heavyweight that is incredibly tough and hard-
working.”
“It’s a pleasure
working with both of these guys and we are hoping to make them part of a local
show in May along with a couple other young fighters in our club. Harrison
Boxing’s new club in Richmond at the south end of number 5 Road is a great
place to develop these athletes and we are hoping to keep them competing and
winning.”
About Greg Harrison/Harrison Boxing
Greg has been
involved in kickboxing and boxing for 19 years as a competitor, coach, corner
man and judge. As a competitor Greg fought in 12 pro boxing fights and 2
amateur kickboxing fights throughout BC, Alberta, Washington, Oregon and
Nevada. He was trained coached, cornered, and traveled with dozens of amateur and
pro fighters, while helping hundreds of beginners get started in boxing and
kickboxing. For the past decade Greg has focused on training boxers both male
and female. He still judges at many local events and corners pro boxers,
however his passion is to help new and experienced boxers compete in the ring.
The Harrison
boxing program is based on some very basic principles. It develops a high
cardiovascular level of fitness to help perform techniques properly, but most
importantly the program is based upon the theory "Have a strong mind, you
will have a strong body." Greg believes whether you think can or think you
can't – you're right!
Boxing is a very
hands- on sport that will give all students a very real sense of what self-
defense and self offence are about. It takes away any false sense of security
and gives self-confidence from what you learn and develop into.
The Harrison
boxing style outlines basic footwork, sound lateral movements and powerful
hands.
