Croatia will advance to play in the the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final against France following a victory over England 2-1 after extra time yesterday. England opened the scoring with a free-kick from Kieran Trippier, but lost momentum when Croatia’s Ivan Perisic tied it up. Mario Mandzukic’s extra time goal seal England’s fate and gave Croatia their first-ever spot in the FIFA World Cup Finals. FIFA.com quotes Croatia team reporter Vjekoslav Paun:

Croatia keep dreaming! Vatreni showed themselves and the world what they are capable of. They produced their best performance of the tournament right when they needed it most, showing their deep reserves of strength with another victory from a game that went to 120 minutes. Despite a quick England goal just five minutes from the start, Zlatko Dalic's side turned it around. France, are you ready?

Serena Williams defeated German player Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4 to advance to her 10th Wimbledon final today. Williams will face another German, Angelique Kerber, who beat Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3 today. ESPN reports that Williams was surprised by the win.

"It's crazy. I don't even know how to feel," Williams said after the match. "I literally didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back in 16 months. I just feel like when I don't have anything to lose, I can just play so free. That's kind of what I'm doing."

The men’s singles semi-finals will be tomorrow, where Spain’s Rafael Nadal will play Serbian Novak Djokovic and American John Isner will face off against South Africa’s Kevin Anderson.

The Telegraph reports that Irish cyclist Dan Martin has won stage six of the Tour de France. This is the second Tour de France stage Martin has won following a stage nine win in 2013.

Hartford, Connecticut is getting a pro soccer team as part of the United Soccer League expansion, according to local outlet the Hartford Courant. The team will be called Hartford Athletic and they will play at Dillon Stadium, which has $10 million worth of state funds to spend on renovation.

“I am so pleased to have joined City, a side playing great football under Pep Guardiola. They’re redefining the English game and I wanted to be a part of it,” Mahrez said on City’s website.

Roger Federer has been eliminated at Wimbledon after losing to South Africa’s Kevin Anderson 2-6, 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-4, 13-11. This will be Anderson’s first Wimbledon semi-final and he will face either Milos Raonic from Canada or John Isner from the United States.

In the Women’s Singles, Serena Williams will face German Julia Goerges on Thursday, and Latvian Jelena Ostapenko will square off against another German Angelique Kerber.

The AP reports that Peter Sagan has won the fifth stage of the Tour de France today, which is the race’s first hilly stage. This marks Sagan’s second victory of the race.

Sagan Wins Stage 2 of Tour de France, Bulls Match $78 Million Contract for Zach Lavine, Vettel Wins British GP and Jones Scores First Cup at Daytona

Serena Williams has reached her 13th quarter-final at Wimbledon after beating Russian player Evgeniya Rodina 6-4, 6-2 today. The AP quotes Williams on the win:

“It was tougher than the scoreline,” Williams said. “I knew we were both moms, and I’m not sure how often that’s happened, if ever. So it’s really cool. You can be a mom, you can still play tennis and you can still be great.”

Eight-time champion Roger Federer also advanced to the quarter-finals with a 6-0, 7-5, 6-4 win over France’s Adrian Mannarino. This marks Federer’s 32nd consecutive set win at Wimbledon, two fewer than his personal record of 34 between the third round in 2005 and the final in 2006.

Sei Young Kim won the Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic shooting 31-under 257 and shattering LPGA records. According to LPGA.com, Kim’s performance at Thornberry Creek broke the 72-hole scoring record, “which she previously owned along with Annika Sorenstam, who totaled a 27-under in 2001.”

The 2018 Tour de France kicked off on Saturday and Slovakian rider Peter Sagan won Stage 2 yesterday. Sagan was disqualified last year after officials ruled that he had caused a crash which broke Mark Cavendish’s shoulder, according to the Associated Press. Sagan is not bitter about the incident, however, and expressed gratitude to be back in the race.

“Revenge? I already forgot about last year,” Sagan said. “I’m just happy I can be in the Tour de France, the biggest race in the world.”

The Chicago Bulls matched a $78 million offer that the Sacramento Kings had offered restricted free agent Zach LaVine on Sunday, ESPN reports. With Lavine missing 91 out of a possible 162 games in the past two seasons, the 23-year-old assured those who may be critical of his re-signing that he would prove his value to the Bulls.

"At the end of the day, I believe in myself, I believe in my work, and I'm going to show the city of Chicago it's a good choice and I'm here to stay. I'm going to be their guy, and I'm ready to do whatever to help this team get back to that spot."

Sebastian Vettel won the British Grand Prix on Saturday. The German driver beat out British rival Lewis Hamilton, and tied Alan Proist for the third highest amount of wins at 51.

22-year-old Erik Jones scored his first NASCAR Cup Series victory at the Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.
