Croatia Defeats England to Advance to First Ever World Cup Final, Williams
Reaches 10th Wimbledon Final, Dan Martin Takes Stage Six of Tour de France and
Hartford Gets Pro Soccer Team
Croatia will advance to play in the the 2018 FIFA
World Cup Final against France following a victory over England 2-1 after extra
time yesterday. England opened the scoring with a free-kick from Kieran
Trippier, but lost momentum when Croatia’s Ivan Perisic tied it up. Mario
Mandzukic’s extra time goal seal England’s fate and gave Croatia their
first-ever spot in the FIFA World Cup Finals. FIFA.com quotes Croatia team reporter Vjekoslav Paun:
Croatia keep
dreaming! Vatreni showed
themselves and the world what they are capable of. They produced their best
performance of the tournament right when they needed it most, showing their
deep reserves of strength with another victory from a game that went to 120
minutes. Despite a quick England goal just five minutes from the start, Zlatko
Dalic's side turned it around. France, are you ready?

Williams defeated German player Julia Goerges 6-2, 6-4 to advance to her 10th
Wimbledon final today. Williams will face another German, Angelique Kerber, who
beat Jelena Ostapenko 6-3, 6-3 today. ESPN reports that
Williams was surprised by the win.
"It's
crazy. I don't even know how to feel," Williams said after the match.
"I literally didn't expect to do this well in my fourth tournament back in
16 months. I just feel like when I don't have anything to lose, I can just play
so free. That's kind of what I'm doing."
The men’s
singles semi-finals will be tomorrow, where Spain’s Rafael Nadal will play
Serbian Novak Djokovic and American John Isner will face off against South
Africa’s Kevin Anderson.
The Telegraph reports that
Irish cyclist Dan Martin has won stage six of the Tour de France. This is the
second Tour de France stage Martin has won following a stage nine win in 2013.
