Cavs Lose in OT Despite LeBron’s Record-Breaking Night, Senators Assistant GM Arrested and Williams Makes Comeback at French Open

The Golden State Warriors won a shocking overtime victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers last night taking the first win of the series. Despite LeBron James scoring the first 50-point finals game since Michael Jordan in 1993, the team still lost 124-114 in OT. Many attribute the Cavs failure to win in regulation to J.R. Smith’s dribbling out the final seconds in the game. Cleveland coach Tyronn Lue said Smith thought the team was leading, which was why he dribbling out the clock. However ESPN quotes Smith:

"No, I knew we were tied. It's just, I thought we were going to take a timeout because I got the rebound. I'm pretty sure everybody didn't think I was going to shoot it over KD right there. ... I mean, I saw KD standing right next to me. He already had, what, four blocks? So I wasn't trying to be the fifth."

Despite walking out of a press conference after the game due to repeated questions about Smith, James affirmed his loyalty to him and the team.

"We got to move on. This game is over and done with. We had opportunities. I would never give up on JR. That's not my M.O. I don't give up on any of my players, any of my teammates, so I don't think that even needs to be said."

Ottawa Senators assistant general manager Randy Lee has been arrested for harassment according to a report in the Associated Press. The arrest occurred last night “following an altercation that occurred during a shuttle bus ride back to his Buffalo hotel.

Serena Williams is advancing to the third round of the French Open in what is being described as a “comeback” in the AP. Despite losing her first set with 17th-seeded Ashleigh Barty of Australia 3-6, Williams came back to win the following two 6-3 and 6-4.

“I lost the first set, and I thought, ‘I’ve got to try harder. I’ve got to just try harder,’ she told the crowd afterward. “And Serena came out.”

#PlaybyPlay; Capitals Tie Series, #Zidane Leaves Real Madrid and Jamaican #Olympic Gold Medal Appeal Refused by Court of Arbitration

Capitals Tie Series, Zidane Leaves Real Madrid and Jamaican Olympic Gold Medal Appeal Refused by Court of Arbitration

The Washington Capitals tied up the Stanley Cup finals series with the Las Vegas Golden Knights last night. With their 3-2 victory, the Capitals can attribute their win to centre Lars Eller, who scored three points (one goal and two assists), and goalie Braden Holtby, who made an astonishing 37 saves. NHL.com quotes Golden Knights centre Erik Haula on his team’s loss:

"Nobody said it's going to be a 4-0 series. It's going to be ups and downs. We've been here before. We've been good on the road. Just put this behind, learn from your mistakes, just try to do things better, and that's it."

Zinedine Zidane announced yesterday that he was leaving Real Madrid as coach. This comes just a week after he led the team to its third consecutive Champions League trophy. The AP quotes Zidane on his decision.

“You have to know when to quit,” said the 45-year-old Zidane, who was Madrid’s coach for two and half seasons. “This is the right moment. I am a winner and if I don’t see it clearly that we will keep winning, it’s time for a change.”

The BBC reports that the Court for Arbitration of Sport (CAS) has refused Jamaican sprinter Nesta Carter’s appeal against stripping him and his team, including Usain Bolt, of their 2008 Olympic Gold Medal. A doping test result from Carter surfaced in January 2017 testing positive for banned stimulant.

Cavs and Warriors in NBA Finals for Fourth Year in a Row, Vegas Takes Game 1 Against Capitals, Power Wins Indy 500 and Serena Williams Wins Grand Slam Match

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors advance to the NBA Finals after playing two games over the Memorial Day weekend. Despite being down two games to the Celtics after Thursday, the Cavs came back with a 109-99 win in Cleveland on Friday, then finished the series with a 87-79 win in Boston on Sunday. The Warriors similarly came back from a two-game deficit with a 115-86 home game win on Saturday, followed by a 101-92 victory last night in Houston.

This means that for the fourth straight year, the Warriors and the Cavs will face off in the NBA finals. The first game of the series is on Thursday in Oakland.

The Golden Knights won the first game of the Stanley Cup finals in Vegas against the Washington Capitals. A back-and-forth game followed Vegas’ thrilling and comically over-the-top opening ceremony, and saw the lead change four times resulting in a 6-4 win for the Golden Knights. NHL.com quotes Vegas defenceman Nate Schmidt on the rollercoaster match:

"A lot of times you feel like the game is going in one direction, and then they score and we score. A lot of emotion. You've just got to make sure you keep it in check. It was a pretty emotional game for everybody.”

IndyCar driver Will Power won the Indianapolis 500 for Team Penske, completing the race in just under three minutes. Indy500 quotes an ecstatic Power on his win:

“I was wondering if I was ever going to win it, and thoughts went through my mind during the month like that. In my career, I’ve had so many wins, so many poles. But everyone always talks about the ‘500.’ And I won it. I just couldn’t imagine winning a race in front of crowd like this, this many people. It’s just amazing. What an event. I love it.”

Veteran driver Danica Patrick’s career-closing race at the Indy 500 ended with her crash on Lap 58, earning her 30th place.

The Associated Press reports that Serena Williams has “won her first Grand Slam match as a mother”, beating Kristyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic 7-6 (4), 6-4 at the French Open today.
