Blackhawks’ Legend Stan Mikita Dead at 78, Gretzky Named Ambassador for
Kunlun Red Star in Beijing and NASCAR CEO Takes Leave of Absence Following
Arrest
Former Chicago Blackhawks star Stan Mikita has died
at 78, according to the Associated Press. Mikita played exclusively for the Blackhawks in his NHL career,
spanning from 1959 to 1980. He holds the team record for assists (926), points (1,467) and
games played (1,394), and is second only to teammate Bobby Hull with 541 goals.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, who called Mikita “one
of the greatest players in NHL history and a Chicago icon”, praised the late
player’s style and technique as well as his conduct:
“He curved his
stick blade to an extent previously unthinkable, causing his shot to do tricks.
He utterly transformed his playing style in his prime, going from one of the
league’s most penalized players to one of its most gentlemanly.”
Wayne Gretzky has joined Kontinental Hockey
League’s (KHL) Kunlun Red Star in Beijing as their global ambassador, according
to HockeyBuzz.com. The 57-year-old hockey legend will be responsible for promoting and
developing the sport in China. Gretzky expressed his excitement for the new
endeavor:
''I'm excited
to make my first trip to China next month and become a partner of Kunlun to
help them develop this brilliant sport of hockey. I can't wait to see that more
and more people turn to the sport''
NASCAR CEO Brian France has taken a leave of
absence following his arrest on Sunday for “driving
while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance” according to CNN. France was found to be in possession of oxycodone
pills at the time of arrest, according to police. France’s uncle Jim France,
NASCAR’s Vice Chairman and Executive Vice President has assumed the role of
interim CEO and chairman.
"I apologize to our fans,
our industry and my family for the impact of my actions last night,"
France said in a statement later Monday. "Effective immediately, I will be
taking an indefinite leave of absence from my position to focus on my personal
affairs."
Manchester United (NYSE:MANU) has announced a partnership with luxury
blended Scotch whisky brand Chivas. The multi-year collaboration will mean
Chivas products being served at Old Trafford stadium among other things.
Richard Arnold, Manchester United’s Group Managing Director said of the
partnership:
“Manchester United’s history is
built on teamwork and we embrace Chivas’ belief that ‘blended is better.’ Our
success both on and off the pitch allows us to bring together the best mix of
people who help to make our club the global name it is today. Each individual

Millennial Esports Corp. (TSX:GAME.V) has granted 5,000,000 stock options to new
CEO and President, Stephen Shoemaker.
