2018 Laver Cup Rosters Completed, China’s Liu Breaks World Record at
Asian Games and Usain Bolt Trains with Australia’s Central Coast Mariners for
the First Time
The 2018 Laver Cup, which takes place from
September 21 to 23 in Chicago, now has completed rosters for both Team Europe
and Team World. The tennis tournament debuted last year and pits an all-star
team of European players against one of players from around the rest of the
world. The Express reports that the completed Team Europe comprises British No. 1 Kyle
Edmund with Wimbledon and Cincinnati Masters champion Novak Djokovic, Roger
Federer, Alexander Zverev, Grigor Dimitrov and David Goffman. Team World
completed their lineup with American Jack Sock, who joins Juan Martin del Potro, Kevin
Anderson, John Isner, Diego Schwartzman and Nick Kyrgios.
Chinese
swimmer Liu Xiang broke the world record for 50m backstroke today at the Asian
Games in Jakarta, according to Channel NewsAsia. At 26.98
seconds, Liu beat the previous record held by another Chinese swimmer, Zhao
Jing, of 27.06 seconds set in Rome at the 2009 world championships.
"It was
like a dream," gasped the former world bronze medallist. "I didn't
expect to do that. I've improved my kick in the last few months and I think
maybe that's what made the difference."
Eight-time
Olympic champion sprinter Usain Bolt trained, for the first time, with
Australian football (soccer) team the Central Coast Mariners today, according
to the Associated Press. Bolt expressed
his ambition to prove himself to the team and bring them success.
“I look
forward to scoring as many goals as possible and bringing home the trophy,”
Bolt said. “But I’m just trying to get over the first hurdle now, that’s to get
a contract.”
