Warriors Lead
Finals 2-0, Capitals Subdue Golden Knights and Williams Drops Out of French
Open
Last night the Golden State Warriors consolidated
their series lead against the Cleveland Cavaliers with a 122-103 victory at
home. Steph Curry stood out in the game, scoring 33 points for the Warriors and
hitting an NBA Finals record of nine 3-point shots. The Associated Press quotes Curry on the night:
"Pretty
special night. And hopefully some more special things happen and we get two
more wins."
LeBron James
said that with Game 3 in Cleveland on Wednesday, the Cavs need to avoid
complacency:
"We want
to continue to be uncomfortable. Just because we're going home doesn't mean we
can relax."
On Saturday night the Washington Capitals took the
series lead against the Golden Knights with a 3-1 victory in D.C. With no goals
in the first period, the Capitals took charge in the second with a goal each
from team captain Alex Ovechkin and Evgeny Kuznetsov. Goalie
Braden Holtby made 21 saves, only letting one goal from Vegas’ Tomas Nosek
before the Capitals’ Devante Smith-Pelly scored a third and final goal. NHL.com quotes Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre
Fleury and forward Ryan Reaves on the loss:
"It
doesn't mean we're out of it," Fleury said. "We still have a lot of
minutes to be played, a lot of periods. Got a lot of time to put ourselves back
in the series."
"You
can live with the losses if you're just not getting the bounces, but the way we
played isn't good enough for this time of year," Vegas forward Ryan Reaves
said.
Serena
Williams has pulled out of her much-anticipated fourth round match in the
French Open with Maria Sharapova due to a chest muscle injury according to the AP. In a press conference Willams cited her inability
to serve as proof that she needs to drop out and recover.
“The
fact that I physically can’t serve at all is a good indication that maybe I
should just go back to the drawing board and stay positive. And try to get
better and not get it to a point where it could be a lot worse.”
